Bend testing displays the test material's ability to elongate and deflect under load without cracking or breaking. A typical welding test, bend testing ensures the heat affected zone, as well as the weld itself did not become brittle during the weld process.

The test specimen is sectioned according to customer drawings or industry specifications, and then bent around a specified radius. The weld is visually inspected for defects.

Bend testing is done according to ASTM E290 – Bend Testing of Material For Ductility or industry specifications as required.
